Burnt mound in Clashnevin

Phase 2: Probably Late Bronze Age. When the well (TN021-103) was basically clogged a series of pits were dug on the W ('ramp') side of the well and a trough put in. Trough appears a standard type but no evidence for lining. Above was a burnt mound 17m x 18m. There is also dispersed pitting and 40m to W of mound was a second trough with wood on base and an associated structure or screen of stakeholes. The trough was filled with burnt mound material but no 'mound' survived. Phase 3: A series of large ditches, some of which are clearly modern and appear on the 1835 survey are dug. All appear to be interconnecting. The burnt mound had been ploughed through and in places had slumped into these ditches. Finds including animal bone. Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien.
