Burial in Townparks (galway By., Rahoon Par.)

Burial

What is recorded here

Rahoon Parish and Galway Bay frame a forgotten burial where human bones still belong to the earth. The exact date and identity have faded, but the act of laying someone to rest remains clear. Local memory may have forgotten the name, yet the ground kept the shape of care.
In May 1959 c. seven skeletons were discovered during digging works at the site of Hotel Enda, Dominick Street Lower, in Galway city. The remains were reported to be buried c. 1.8m below ground level, and, according to one report, they were lying head to head rather than parallel to one another. The site was reported to the NMI and was visited by Etienne Rynne, but by that time the site had been covered by concrete. The site was not visited by NMI personnel (pers. comm. M. Cahill and M. Sikora, NMI)..

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
