Burial ground in Lisdoo

Burial ground

What is recorded here

Excavations in advance of a proposed residential development (Excavation Licence No. 04E1641) uncovered a shallow grave-cut containing a single inhumation burial orientated E-W. Additional human remains recovered from the ploughsoil around this grave indicate the presence of another disturbed burial in the immediate vicinity. No further excavation work was carried out. (Walsh 2007, 266-7) Compiled by: Claire Breen Date of upload: 8 December 2011
A single inhumation burial in a shallow grave-cut, likely medieval or post-medieval in date; its significance lies in its orientation and context within a proposed development area, indicating possible domestic or rural cemetery use.
