Forty-two uninscribed markers cluster in the southern half of a sub-triangular field beside the Union Workhouse, holding the forgotten dead of famine and institutional suffering. The stones remain nameless, forcing memory to do the work of inscription. They stand as a quiet accusation against the ease with which societies discard their most vulnerable.

Abutting E wall of Union Workhouse (CO139-040001-) enclosing wall. Shown as sub-triangular field on OS 6-inch map (1901). Total of forty-two uninscribed gravemarkers concentrated in S half of field. Known locally to be burial place of famine victims and inmates of nearby workhouse. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
