What is recorded here
Indicated is a low earthen ring on the east shore of Lough Erril, preserving a subcircular space twenty-six by twenty-two metres despite losing most of its entrance and outer ditch. The remaining bank rises barely seventy centimetres outside the top edge, suggesting human hands shaped the ground before water, grass or forgetting smoothed the result. A crannog floats one hundred metres southwest through the lake, implying this was not a lonely marker but one room in a wider waterside life.
Located on the E shore of Lough Erril with the lake shore c. 30m to the SW and crannog (LE032-087----) c. 100m to the SW. This is an overgrown subcircular area (int. dims c. 26m N-S; c. 22m E-W) defined by a low earthen bank (at NW: Wth of base 4m; Wth of top 0.8m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.7m) NW-NE which is reduced to a slight scarp elsewhere. There is no visible fosse or identifiable original entrance. The perimeter is truncated slightly by a WNW-ESE field bank at NE.
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Leitrim' compiled by Michael J. Moore (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2003). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
