Indicated

Enclosure

What is recorded here

Indicated was a circular enclosure in rolling Mayo pasture, marked on an 1838 map but now levelled beyond recognition. It may have been a ringfort, a place where people lived, argued, loved and disappeared into the ordinary world. The land keeps its shape in memory even when the earth has forgotten it.
In rolling pasture, with surrounding rock outcrop. Shown on OS map (1838) as circular enclosure. Levelled; no visible surface traces. Possibly a ringfort. The above description has been derived from D. Lavelle (compiler), An Archaeological Survey of Ballinrobe and District including Lough Mask and Lough Carra. Lough Mask and Lough Carra Tourist Development Association (1994), No. 321. Date of upload: 20 November 2013
