Detached three-bay single-storey former railway station, built c.1870 as part of the Sligo, Leitrim and Northern Counties Railway, with two-bay two-storey extension to west. Pitched slate roof with ashlar chimneystacks, cast-iron rainwater goods, decorative bargeboards and a finial. Snecked stone walls and tooled quoins. Segmental-headed window openings with tooled sandstone surrounds and sills and timber sash windows. Segmental-headed door opening with tooled sandstone surround and timber door with iron door furniture. Stone former platform to north. Corrugated-iron former 'Customs and Excise' office on platform to east of former station.

The former railway station at Glenfarne is undergoing extensive works to convert it into a house with a major addition to the small railway building. Many fine features enhanced the original three-bay station including the tooled stone work, iron door furniture, decorative cast-iron downpipes and decorative bargeboards while the architectural form of the building is typical of railway stations in the area. This former railway station forms part of a group with the surviving railway-related structures to the site.
