Bridge in Brackenstown,brazil

This is a large, single semi-circular arched stone road bridge, c.1800, over the Ward river on the R108. It is constructed of coursed rubble limestone with large, roughly squared voussoirs and projecting keystone with simple hood moulding. The crossing is indicative of an earlier bridge and older ford. Visible but unnamed on Rocque’s 1760 map (Historic Road Bridges 2009, Vol. 2, 131). Plaque on roadside façade, erected to commemorate point of assembly for Fingal Volunteers prior to the Battle of Ashbourne, Easter Week 1916.
