Lady Well in County Kildare is a circular stone chamber half sunk into the earth where people climbed down steps to pray on Lady-Day and during August patterns. The well was dry when last seen, yet its narrow doorway and low roof still suggest a crowded room of whispers, candles and repeated visits. It is the kind of place where devotion does not need water to feel complete.

According to the OSL (Herity 2002, 34), '… there is a well called Lady Well, at which stations were performed on Lady-Day in Harvest', and Jackson (1979-80, 145) says a pattern was held here in August. At the W foot of a low hill, with a second holy well (KD002-003----) c. 500m to the SSW. The well is contained in a circular (int. diam. 1.5m), semi-subterranean, stone-built well-house (H 2.4m) which has a flat, concrete roof. A plain lintelled doorway (Wth 0.8m; H 1.3m) and steps at W give access. The well was dry on the day of the visit. Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Date of upload: 10 June 2011
