Font in Belan

Font

What is recorded here

Belan holds a broken octagonal font from the fifteenth century, lying beside grass-covered church foundations in an unenclosed graveyard. The shape survives even though the building has surrendered much of itself to turf and time. A child baptized there would have touched water inside angles still recognizable today.
The grass-covered foundations of a church (KD038-001----) stand on a slight rise in an unenclosed graveyard (KD038-001001-). Fragments of an octagonal, moulded font and octagonal base, probably of fifteenth century date, lie in the nave. Date of upload: 15 September 2016
