Saint Fintan's Hospital

Detached three-bay single-storey stone gate lodge, built c.1830, at the Dublin Road entrance to St Fintan's Hospital, with extension to south c.1970 and former out-building to west. Hipped slate roof, stone ridge tiles, limestone ashlar central chimneystack with cement-coping, cast-iron rainwater goods. Coursed tooled limestone ashlar walls with feathered edges, replaced with cement render to northeast corner and to north elevation, stop-chamfer detail to both south corners, ruled-and-lined cement render to remainder, segmental-headed window and door openings formed in voussoired limestone ashlar and painted limestone sills. uPVC windows and replacement timber door opening onto limestone flagged platform.

This modest gate lodge has an attractive presence at the entrance to St Fintan's Hospital. In its materials, craftsmanship and composition it reflects the original hospital building designed by Francis Johnston. It further enhances the architectural interest of the St. Fintan's hospital complex.
