Half a mile from the ruined church in Bawntaaffe, a hidden well waited in the field called Crotha. It was not a grand monument but a small water source set apart for prayer, healing or remembrance. The distance from the church suggests the well belonged to a living ritual rather than a forgotten story. People may have walked that half mile with clay pots, sick children or quiet hopes, trusting the water to carry what prayer could not finish.

According to the Irish Folklore Commission Schools' Manuscripts (674, 177-8) a holy well was sited in a field called 'Crotha' about 500 yards (c. 450m) from the church ruin (LH021-031001-) (IFC Schools MSS). Compiled by: Claire Breen Date of upload: 19 July 2012
