Battlefield in Coolteige,mullymucks

Battlefield

What is recorded here

Mullymucks remains a battlefield marker in County Roscommon, though the exact date and warring parties have slipped from local memory. The name itself suggests a violent clash, perhaps between neighbours or passing armies, but no surviving account confirms who bled there. What is certain is that the land witnessed fighting serious enough to be remembered as a battlefield rather than a border dispute or hunting ground.
The Archaeological Survey of Ireland (ASI) is in the process of providing information on all monuments on The Historic Environment Viewer (HEV).
