What is recorded here

On high level pasture, with commanding views to N and NW over Blackwater River valley and E over Owenbaun River valley. Circular area (diam. 8m) enclosed by shallow fosse (D 0.3m; Wth 4m) and outer earthen bank (max. H1m). Bank highest to W and N; low points to SW and NE may mark possible entrances. Slightly raised interior, has poorly defined edge with gradual rise towards centre. Site planted with coniferous trees. Second ring-barrow (7870) c. 12m to S. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). A Neolithic ring-barrow; significant as a rare and well-preserved circular burial monument, possibly associated with early farming communities in the region.
