Barrow, ditch barrow

In reclaimed pasture 110m SW of the Morningstar River that marks the townland boundary with Milltown. Ditch barrow (LI040-254----) lies 22m to SE and barrow (LI040-247----) lies 15m to NE. Not depicted on OSi historic maps. Identified by Bruff aerial photographic survey in 1986 (Bruff 127.01; AP 5/2069) as a possible barrow. Visible as a circular-shaped area enclosed by a ditch on oblique aerial photograph (ASIAP (348) 22). Faint traces of cropmark visible on Google Earth orthoimages. Ditch barrow, likely dating to the Early Bronze Age. Its location near a river and in proximity to other barrows suggests it may be part of a broader funerary or ritual landscape.
