What is recorded here
Gateway, extant 1903, on a symmetrical plan comprising pair of gritdashed roughcast piers having Irish battlemented capping supporting spear head-detailed wrought iron double gates with gritdashed roughcast outer piers having Irish battlemented capping. Road fronted at entrance to grounds of Bargy Castle.
A gateway not only making a pleasing visual statement in a sylvan street scene at the principal entrance on to the grounds of the Bargy Castle estate, but also illustrating the continued development or "improvement" of the estate by Major John Harvey (1816-80).
This does not grant access. Most recorded buildings are privately owned; view them only from public ground unless the owner allows entry.
