Man-made underground passage in Ballyvouskill

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

Under a forgotten Cork field, a buried chamber waits beneath soil and grass. Broker found it filled in 1937, perhaps sealing what the owners no longer wanted seen. The ground keeps its quiet, but the shape below remains a room built by human hands.
In possible ringfort (8650). Broker (1937, 44) recorded an 'underground chamber filled up'. No visible surface trace. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
