What is recorded here

Two parallel lines cut through wet pasture west of the Island Dromagh boundary, perhaps marking post-1700 drainage channels rather than a medieval field system. They appear only on aerial images taken during gas pipeline surveys and later satellite views, absent from historic maps. The ground may have been reshaped to drain water for grazing, leaving faint ridges that still trace the effort of people forcing life from reluctant soil.

In reclaimed wet pasture, 30m W of a watercourse that forms townland boundary with Island Dromagh, possible barrows (LI040-127001-/002-) lie 110m to the W. Not marked on OSi historic maps. Identified as linear cropmarks on aerial photographs (BGE 1/5000, Strip map 4, site 4/37) taken 03/11/1984 on Bórd Gáis Éireann Curraleigh West-Limerick gas pipeline. Monument visible as 2 linear cropmarks parallel to each other and running N-S in a field containing cultivation ridges running E-W, on Digital Globe orthoimage taken 2011-13. Also visible on Google Earth orthoimage dated 14/09/2019. Linear earthworks may represent teh remains of post-1700 drainage channels associated with land reclamation rather than the remains of a medieval field system. See attached Google Earth orthoimages.
