Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballynacarrow North is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Ballynacarrow North, County Sligo, Ireland. Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballynacrow North is the most south-western of three conjoined raths in a north-east to south-west row. It occupies level pasture near a break of slope and contains a slightly raised circular area measured twenty-four metres north-south and twenty-five metres east-west. An earthen bank encloses the south and north sides, while a low broadly sloping scarp marks the north-east edge before fading into a slight undulation.
In level pasture, close to a break of slope. The most south-western of three conjoined raths (see SL026-120002- and SL026-120003-) in a NE-SW row. A slightly raised circular area (24m N-S; 25m E-W) enclosed S-N by an earthen bank (Wth 2.5m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 1.15m) with a well-defined external face and a low internal rim and by a low broadly sloping scarp (Wth 3.5m; H 0.55m) N-NE, petering out to a slight undulation E-S. The bank at N swings wide of the circuit of the enclosure and continues to NE intersecting with the bank of the adjoining rath (SL026-120002-) but this appears to be the result of a later modification of both. The interior has a very slight slope down to E. At N-NE the scarp slumps into a shallow fosse-like depression (Wth 2m) that separates this rath from the bank of the adjoining rath (SL026-120002-).
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
