Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballyknock is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Ballyknock, County Tipperary, Ireland. It occupies a south-facing slope just off the summit of Ballyknock Hill and measures 42.3 metres north to south and 47.3 metres east to west. A grass-covered bank with a high stone content encloses the site, while a shallow outer ditch reaches 0.28 metres in depth. The ditch is most pronounced in the north half, but brambles obscure the south side.
Just off the summit of Ballyknock Hill, on a S-facing slope, in pasture. Roughly circular area (diam. 42.3m N-S; 47.3m E-W) enclosed by grass-covered bank with a high stone content (Wth crest 2m; base 5.1m; H above int. 0.67m; H above ext. 2-2.3m) and shallow, U-shaped outer fosse (Wth 3.6m; D 0.28m). The fosse is most pronounced in the N half of the ringfort, the S side is obscured by brambles. Interior slopes to S. Foundations of a structure in interior with much denuded wall (Wth 1.7m; H 0.35m) running N-S (L 15m) from the inner face of the N bank. Immediately E of this there is a slightly raised area (dims. 15m N-S; 13m E-W) with stones protruding above the surface. Deep tractor/JCB ruts run E-W in the N part of the interior. The original entrance appears to be in the SSW (Wth 2.5m). A gap in the NW quadrant has been machine widened recently (Wth 5.8m) to provide tractor access to the monument. The bank material has been pushed into the fosse to provide a ramped causeway. In the N-NW sectors dead wood/scrub has been dumped in the fosse, with a small stone dump against the external face of the bank in the N. A post and wire fence runs E-W up to the external face of the bank in the E quadrant and the area immediately S of this has been dug away.
