Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballykenny

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort in Ballykenny: a 24m earthen ring with shallow fosse and outer bank in rough pasture, beside another ringfort 15m away. The name suggests people once saw more than livestock and stone: a hidden dwelling, a child’s game, or a warning not to dig where the ground already shapes itself.
In level rough pasture. Circular area (diam. 24m) defined by scarped edge (H 0.6m; Wth 2.6m), with external fosse (D 0.35m; Wth 3.6m) and counterscarp earthen bank (int. H 0.35m; ext. H 0.1m) NW->SSW. Field boundary and watercourse runs along line of fosse and external bank SSW->NW. Interior level and under grass. Ringfort (LI044-048---) 15m to NNE.
