What is recorded here

Indicated is a 29-metre stone ringfort on a west-facing slope in County Limerick, where cattle have worn the eastern bank flat but the southwestern wall still stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the field boundary. The ground rises gently toward the centre, as if the circle were not built but exhaled from the hill itself. Whatever lived inside has stopped leaving shadows, yet the stones still hold their shape against the pasture, patient and unbroken.

In pasture, on W-facing hill slope. Circular area (diam. 29m) enclosed by stone bank (int. H 0.9m; ext. H 0.9m). Bank best preserved SW->NE where dry-stone field wall (H 0.9m) runs along outer edge; bank denuded by cattle at ENE. Interior, under pasture, rises up gently towards centre. Field walls abut external bank face at SW and NE; another which abutted it at W has been removed since it was depicted on 1923 OS 6-inch map. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
