Structure

A very loose deposit (Wth 3m; D 0.44m) of mixed brushwood in opposing drain faces. The brushwood is up to four pieces deep and is irregularly orientated. The elements are dispersed both vertically and horizontally and it is not possible to discern any structural evidence. Woodworking is not recorded. Wood species include willow, alder, ash and hazel. The spread sits in moderately humified Sphagnum peat containing Eriophorum. This is one of a series of comparable sites along a 34m long stretch in this drain face which includes SMR OF015-156---- c. 0.4m to the NW and SMR OF015-155---- c. 0.8m to the SE. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 1996. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument.
