Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballyconnell

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No trace remains of the Ballyconnell ringfort, though maps marked it before a fieldbank cut it in half. It vanished under soil and forgetting, leaving behind only a coordinate and a absent shape.
This site is marked on the 1841-42 and 1898 OS maps. On the later edition it has been cut in half by a fieldbank running N-S. No surface trace of this site survives today. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 730. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 2 August 2013

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
