Fairy fort in Ballintubbrid: a 30 m earthen ring, its outer bank standing 2.1 m above the damp pasture while the inner edge drops to 0.95 m, with a narrow western gap and a shallow fosse breaking the north-western and western turf. Cattle have long since trod the level middle into a soft, poached bowl where bushes gather in the rain. People may have lived there before fields and fences cut across it, but the earth still keeps its own shape, holding back the slope like a forgotten hand.

In damp pasture, on slight W-facing slope. Circular area (diam. c. 30m) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.95m; ext. H 2.1m), with external fosse (D 0.85m; Wth 1.9m) NW->W. Gap (Wth 0.8m) in bank at W. An E-W running field boundary crosses fosse at W, runs along outer base of bank W->NE and meets NE->SW running boundary which crosses fosse at NE. Level interior is partially covered by bushes and otherwise under rough pasture which is heavily poached by cattle. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
