What is recorded here

Square in Aughils, buried under grass and forgetting, the mound still holds its shape. Men and women may have laid their dead inside it before roads or churches existed. It is not easy to find now, but the land remembers the weight of what was placed there.

The Co. Kerry Field Club (1941, 187) recorded a large square mound of earth and stones in this townland, but its precise location is not known. It was considered by them to be a burial mound.
