Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Myrtle Branch as Steamship (period Unassigned)-(1918). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Myrtle Branch was a steamship built in 1918, later identified as a Canadian vessel. It was lost in 1942 during World War II when it was torpedoed by a German U-boat in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, resulting in the deaths of all 35 crew members; the wreck is significant as one of the few known Canadian shipwrecks from the Battle of the St. Lawrence.
