Indicated is a roofless gun battery on Bear Island, built with half-metre stone walls and loops cut for barrels that no longer exist. It sits half a kilometre from the Martello Tower, small enough to walk across in seconds but heavy with the purpose of aiming fire at sea. The missing roof and broken annex leave the chamber open to weather, turning a military tool into a hollow box where wind still pushes through the gun holes.

Roofless rectangular structure (int: 3.0m NW-SE; 2.4m NE-SW; wall thickness 0.6m) c. 0.3 km NE of Martello Tower (CO128-014---) on Bear Island. Shown on OS 6-inch map (1842) as Battery No. 4 in square ordnance grounds. Ground and 1st floor door in NE wall. Series of gun loops in 1st floor wall.
