What is recorded here

Detached two-bay single-storey former gate lodge, built c. 1810, having two-bay single-storey flat-roof extension to north. Now in use as private house. Hipped slate roof with overhanging eaves and rendered chimneystack. Painted rendered walls with render plinth course and with decorative render course to eaves comprising trefoil swag with foliate consoles. Square-headed window openings having render label-mouldings, sills and replacement timber casement windows. Square-headed entrance doorway with render label-moulding and ornate timber panelled door.
This diminutive, Gothic Revival former gate lodge formerly served the demesne of Anne's Grove. The render detail to the eaves enlivens the façade and adds artistic interest. The popularity of this style of revival architecture lasted into the later years of the nineteenth century. The ornate timber panelled door is enhanced by blank lancet and quatrefoil motifs. The site retains limestone piers and cast-iron gates and railings, which, together with the gate lodge forms a striking roadside feature.
