What is recorded here
Tooled ashlar gate piers, erected c.1850, providing access to Alderford House. Comprising carved panel with raised-and-fielded moulding and surmounted by rectangular profile cap. Gates to pedestrian gate way to north survive. Cast-iron gates with decorative finials.
These finely-tooled gate piers aesthetically enhance the eastern end of the town. They introduce Alderford House, which is set some distance back from the road. The decorative panelling is both technically and artistically significant.
This does not grant access. Most recorded buildings are privately owned; view them only from public ground unless the owner allows entry.
