Grave Yard in County Limerick holds the ruined Croagh church and castle at its centre, a rectangular patch of soil measuring forty-seven by sixty-five metres. A stone wall built after 1700 still encloses the place, marking when the boundary was last drawn rather than when the first body was laid beneath the grass. The ruins stand like forgotten witnesses in the middle of the dead, suggesting the living once gathered around them before withdrawing into silence.
