Craigievar Castle is a seven-storey tower house completed in 1626 for William Forbes, the merchant nicknamed Danzig Willy. His family lived there for 350 years, filling its rooms with plaster ceilings that rank among Scotland’s finest. The castle survived decay and near-demolition because one man recognized its rarity, then passed it through baronets and lords until the National Trust for Scotland took it in 1963.

Craigievar Castle was built in the early 17th century by the Forbes family, specifically for William Forbes, who later became the 5th Lord Forbes. It is important as a well-preserved example of a Scottish tower house and is noted for its distinctive pink harled exterior and classical architectural features.
