What is recorded here

Castle Hill in Aberdeenshire held a royal castle first mentioned in 1264, when Richard Cementarius repaired its stone walls beside a chapel. It changed hands during the Wars of Independence, enduring a siege in 1308 before English keepers withdrew. The hill itself preserves no visible castle, but it carries the weight of a busy royal household, mint, kitchens, dungeon and garrison that once lived there.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Castle Hill as Natural Feature (period Unknown). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
