Craigievar Castle is a seven-storey Scottish Baronial tower in Aberdeenshire, completed in 1626 for William Forbes, the merchant known as Danzig Willy. His family lived there for 350 years, filling its rooms with plasterwork ceilings that still rank among Scotland’s finest. The house survived decay, alteration and the loss of its old owners, yet it kept its shape because one man valued its rarity enough to restore it.

Craigievar Castle was built in the early 17th century by the Forbes family, specifically for Sir Alexander Forbes, 4th Baronet. It is important as a fine example of Scottish Baronial architecture and is one of the most photographed castles in Scotland.
