Craigievar Castle stands as a seven-storey Scottish Baronial tower completed in 1626 by Danzig Willy, the shrewd merchant who bought the unfinished structure from the impoverished Mortimer family. His descendants occupied the harled walls for three centuries until the nineteenth Lord Sempill sold the property to the National Trust for Scotland in 1963. Inside, crafted plasterwork ceilings display the Nine Worthies and family emblems, preserving the bold ambition of a trading dynasty that turned Baltic profits into stone.
