Craigievar Castle stands as a seven-storey tower completed in 1626 for Danzig Willy, the merchant who bought the unfinished stone from the impoverished Mortimer family. Inside, plaster ceilings display the Nine Worthies and family emblems, preserving the pride of the Forbes line that occupied the house for three centuries. The building survived decay because a later owner heard it was one of the finest specimens of its age, choosing restoration over demolition.

Craigievar Castle was built by the Gordon family in the early 17th century, with construction beginning around 1600. It is important as a fine example of Scottish baronial architecture and is remembered for its distinctive pink harl and prominent crow-stepped gabling.
