On 4 January 1976, Ulster Volunteer Force and Special Patrol Group members shot six unarmed civilians dead in Whitecross and Ballydougan, County Armagh. The attacks came hours after three Protestant civilians died in a Gilford bombing, and one day before ten more Protestants were killed at Kingsmill. What began as retaliation became a chain of vengeance that swallowed whole families and neighbourhoods.
