Mortars and ragstone still mark the ring where Aghnagrane stood. A Rath is a fortress, a boundary, a claim drawn around the living field. Men may have built it to keep out raids or to hold grain through winter. They may have stood inside it during storms, listening for horses or hunger beyond the wall.

The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as RATH. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
