RAISED RATH in Dunnyneill Islands

RAISED RATH

What is recorded here

Melted ice and human hands built the Dunnyneill Islands, but the rath still stands above them. It is no longer a boundary for people because the sea took the land around it. The stones remain marked in the public record, preserving the shape of a room that no longer has a door.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as RAISED RATH. Recorded period: MESO/NEOL; E.CHRIST.; C12TH; C13TH; C14TH. Recorded protection: Scheduled. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
