The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Circular area (135m N-S, 140m E-W) surrounded by low defaced bank and shallow external fosse. Entrance not identified. Bank and fosse have been altered in most places.

Raheen is a small, circular earthwork likely dating to the early medieval period, associated with ringfort settlements common in Ireland during the 5th to 10th centuries. Local tradition links the site to fairy folklore, as is typical of such forts, with beliefs that they were inhabited by supernatural beings or were portals to the Otherworld.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
