R. C. Chapel (in ruins)

Situated on a fairly level landscape. This is probably a Catholic church which is described as 'R.C. Chapel (in ruins)' on the 1839 ed. of the OS 6 inch map and as ‘St. Bridget’s Cath. Ch. (in Ruins)’ on the 1940 ed. It might be a private chapel, but it is not listed amongst the churches of Forth barony by Synnott writing c. 1680 (Hore 1862-3, 66-9). It survives as the grass-covered foundations of a rectangular structure (ext. dims. 7.55m E-W; 5.25m N-S) defined by stone walls (Wth 0.6-0.9m; H 0.3-0.8m) that are probably clay-bonded, with an entrance (Wth 1.05m) at W. The church is within a rectangular, grass-covered enclosure with some trees (dims 22m N-S; 21m E-W) defined by earthen banks (Wth c. 3m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 0.8-1.4m), with entrances at W (Wth 1.2m) and S (Wth 1.85m). There is no indication of burial.
