Promontory fort stands inland in County Mayo, Ireland, a rare earthwork built away from water. Its makers chose solid ground rather than a shoreline, perhaps to control a valley, hide a treasury or simply believe the land itself could hold them back. The stones still lean into that forgotten decision, waiting for someone to remember why height and distance mattered more than tide.
