What is recorded here

Two needle-thin projections south of Kilconly Point still wear faint ridges across their necks, perhaps ancient banks now mistaken for modern field edges. Erosion has stripped most of their skin, leaving only a suggestion of fortification behind pasture and salt wind.

Possible promontory fort described in 2002 as follows; 'Erosion has obliterated most of the soil cover from two needle-thin projections [KE001-048---- and KE001-049----] south of Kilconly Point along the southern shore of the Shannon estuary mouth. Two modern earthen field banks cut off the headlands from the surrounding pasture and close to the neck of each promontory are undulations across the isthmus, suggesting from afar the remains of banks or walls cutting off the headlands. These sites were not examined in detail at ground level and remain only possibilities until further inspection takes place' (Casey 2002, 52, no. S).
