Mortals may have built Poulacahera Fort, but the fairies finished it and never left. The ring measures forty-four metres across, yet the distance doubles when walked at midnight. Its shallow bank and hidden ditches mark the boundary between the ordinary world and the realm where memory becomes flesh. People who enter forget one cherished name and return with a gift they cannot explain. The fort takes a small part of someone and gives back a version of life more vivid than before.

Poulacahera Fort is a likely early-medieval ringfort, characterized by a circular enclosure with an earthen bank and silted fosse, typical of agricultural or defensive settlements of the period. Local tradition associates such sites with fairy lore, often regarded as dwellings of the "Good People" in Irish folklore.
