What is recorded here
Cast-iron wall-mounted post box, erected c. 1890, with "VR" insignia and crown motif, set in red brick wall at entrance to Saint John's Home on east side of Peter's Hill.
The cast-iron post box forms a modest though attractive addition to the streetscape. Its recognisable form and simple detail illustrate the artistic qualities of mass production at the time of the casting and remains in use as an important feature in the social and urban fabric of the town.
