Wall-mounted cast-iron post box, c.1925, with S É insignia encircled and crowned with harp motif. Set in roughcast rendered wall abutting façade of garda station in the village of Clonbulloge. Maker's mark to base 'W.T. Allen & Co. London'.
This is a good example of a post box erected after Independence in 1921 with the Saorstat Éireann emblem. Its modest design is enhanced by its finely executed lettering and motif. The London firm of founders, W.T. Allen & Co., was in operation from 1881-1955.
