What is recorded here

This site was located in the industrial peatlands of Cloonshannagh Bog. It was first recorded in the 2013 Reassessment Peatland Survey as exposed in section in a W-facing drain face 0.08m below the field surface. It was composed of brushwood overlying transverse elements (Whitaker 2014). The site was excavated in 2015 (licence 15E0199). It was dated to cal. AD 262-535. The site was a platform composed of hazel, birch, alder and holly brushwood. It was orientated NE-SW, and measured 1.71-3m in width. Seventeen toolmarked ends were noted, five of which were chisel point ends with facets (Coughlan and Whitaker 2019).
