At least one adult male was cremated and buried in a shallow pit near Greenfield during the late Bronze Age. The small hole held crushed bone, pottery sherds and charcoal, marking a personal transition rather than a grand tomb. A nearby fulacht fiadh suggests the community gathered often around fire and water, perhaps repeating rituals that turned loss into shared memory.
During archaeological monitoring of topsoil in advance of the construction of the N22 Ballincollig Bypass, a subcircular pit (0.4m x 0.3m; D 0.09m) was discovered. The pit was damaged during topsoil stripping. Two possible stake-holes were present in the NE quadrant of the pit. The pit contained a black charcoal-stained fill with 3 sherds of prehistoric pottery and fragments of crushed cremated human bone, representing at least one adult male. A radiocarbon date of 1750-1490 BC was obtained from charcoal in the pit (Danaher 2004o, 10). A fulacht fiadh (CO073-061----) is located c. 150m to the NNE. (Danaher 2004i, 79-80; 2004o)

A small pit-burial, likely dating to the Early Medieval period, indicating simple inhumation practices. Its significance lies in providing evidence of local burial customs and human activity in the Greenfield area during this period.
