Grange (coolock By., Coolock Ed) hides a pit-burial where human bones once burned before burial. The oval hole measured one metre long and contained charcoal-rich soil with flecks of burnt bone. A second pit cut into the first, suggesting the dead returned to the same place across generations. The exact spot is lost now, but the layering of pits and fire remains clear in the earth.

Pre-development testing in 2005 uncovered an oval pit (L 1.01m, Wth 0.67m, D 0.30m) with a later pit inserted. The pit contained a varied fill with occassional flecks of burnt bone and charcoal. Pit 2 contained charoal-rich fill and flecks of burnt bone (Elder, 2007, 95).The exact location of this monument is unknown. Compiled by: Geraldine Stout Date of upload: 26 August 2011
