Pile of Stones

Cairn, boundary cairn

What is recorded here

An unnamed man may have stacked the stones on the broad plateau, marking the exact point where the Cullinboy and Gubinea boundary bends from southwest-northeast to north-northwest. The 1910 survey caught that quiet act in italic lettering, preserving a temporary human boundary long after the stones themselves changed.
Marked only on the 1910 ed. of the OS 6-inch map where it is described in italic lettering as a ‘Pile of Stones’. It is located at a point where the unbuilt townland boundary between Cullinboy to the W and Gubinea to the E changes direction from SW-NE to the NNW direction proceeding N. It is situated on a broad plateau and comprises a small modern pile of stones. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 4 January, 2016
